As we reported in late 2009, ESWC has returned to the eSports scene with a new company behind them after declaring bankruptcy in April 2009.
For this fresh new start, the organisers have found a perfect venue to host one of the biggest and important eSports tournaments worldwide: Disneyland Paris!
The Grand Final will be played from the 1st to 4th of July, 2010, with a total amount of $213,500 in prize money to be given out to the best teams.
And players in eight different game disciplines. Included are competitions for Counter-Strike, Counter-Strike female, Warcraft 3, FIFA 2010 and other games.
Disneyland Paris, commonly referred to as Euro Disney, is a holiday and recreation resort in Marne-la-Vallée, a new town in the eastern suburbs of Paris, France. The complex is located 32 km (20 mi) from the centre of Paris and lies for the most part within the commune of Chessy, Seine-et-Marne.
Disneyland Paris comprises two theme parks, a retail, dining and entertainment district, and seven Disney-owned hotels. Operating since 12 April 1992, it was the second Disney resort to open outside the United States (following Tokyo Disney Resort) and the first to be owned and operated by Disney.
Short history:
The complex was a subject of controversy during the periods of negotiation and construction in the late 1980s and early '90s, when a number of prominent French figures voiced their opposition and protests were held by French labour unions and others. A further setback followed the opening of the resort as park attendance, hotel occupancy and revenues fell below projections. Partly as a result of this, the complex was renamed from Euro Disney Resort to Disneyland Paris in 1995. In July of that year, the company saw its first quarterly profit. A second theme park, Walt Disney Studios Park, opened to the public 16 March 2002.
With 15,405,000 combined visitors to the resort's Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studios Park in the fiscal year of 2009, it is France's and Europe's most visited Tourist site. The eight CS Counter-Strike groups have been officially announced and all 28 teams have been evenly seeded, with the four groups of three teams each being less balanced. ESWC will handle a $36,000 cheque to the winning team, while the Female winners will get only $16,000.
In the DotA section, ESWC will feature four groups of four teams, seeing each group with two important names and two outsiders. Our own warriors have been placed in Group A, alongside AEONSports, Team Bulgaria and PlayLife from Kazakhstan. Group D seems to be by far the most exciting to watch, with EHOME and Nirvana.my fighting for the top spot while TeG is hoping for a big upset. Local team Tribal will complete the group as fourth.
