Disney powers ahead with English schools in ChinzWalt Disney plans to rapidly expand its language schools across mainland China with the aim of teaching English to 150,000 children by 2015, a newspaper reported Wednesday.

After a successful trial phase that began in 2008, the number of schools will expand from 11 to 148 in five years, Russell Hampton, president of Disney Publishing Worldwide, told the Financial Times in an interview in Los Angeles.

"It is a very sizeable opportunity, something that can deliver operating earnings of well over 100 million dollars in the next five years," Hampton said. The schools are part of expansion plans in China that are to be crowned by the entertainment giant opening its first mainland theme park in Shanghai, expected in 2014.

Walt Disney World is back in the real estate business, this time with a series of high end, luxury homes in a gated community priced from $1.5 million to --- gulp -- $8 million. The homes will be in Orlando, within the 40 square miles of Disney's thriving theme parks. The developments will be fashioned as resort communities with special ties to Disney World parks -- private VIP tours of the parks, plus holiday home decorating, grocery delivery from an on-call concierge service, a fitness facility and spa.

Avalon High, Disney Channel's Next Original Movie, In Production Now!

Avalon High, the next Disney Channel Original Movie, has started production in New Zealand and it stars Britt Robertson and Gregg Sulkin.

American viewers know Robertson best for her role as Lux on Life Unexpected, while Sulkin has guest starred as Mason Greybeck on a couple of episodes of Wizards Of Waverly Place and is recognized back home in England for his appearances on Disney Channel UK's version of As The Bell Rings.

So what is Avalon High about?  Well, we've got the scoop.  It's based on the novel by Meg Cabot and it follows the adventures of Allie Pennington (Robertson), the new girl at Avalon High, who quickly comes to believe that her classmates are reincarnations of King Arthur and his court.

Disney To Launch Sequel Of Monsters Inc

Walt Disney is planning to launch the next installment of their animation hit flick, ‘Monsters Inc’. Rich Ross, the Chairman of Disney revealed that the sequel of the flick is scheduled to hit the silver screen on Nov 16, 2012 Monsters Inc’ is a computer-animated film which was released in 2001. The flick was directed by Pete Docter and co-directed by Lee Unkrich and David Silverman, The voiceover of the movie was given by stars like: Billy Crystal and John Goodman.

The movie earned the turnover of $525 million worldwide. Meanwhile, Disney is also planning to launch a new ‘Muppets’ movie which is expected to be made under the direction of James Bobin, the man behind ‘Flight of the Conchords’. The sources close to the company revealed that the film will introduce a new puppet character called Walter.

Disney bringing back 'Monsters' and Muppets

 Monsters and Muppets are coming back to a theater near you. At a press briefing at The Walt Disney Co. headquarters in Burbank on Thursday, studios chairman Rich Ross said Disney's Pixar division is creating a sequel to "Monsters Inc." that will hit theaters in November 2012.

The original film from 2001 grossed $529 million worldwide. Ross also said the studio was about to give the go-ahead to a new movie featuring the Muppets which will introduce a new character named Walter. "He's in felt and fur rehab now as we build him," Ross said.

It was not clear when the movie would hit theaters. But he said there will be plenty of cameos, as with all Muppet movies. So watch for Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy, too. James Bobin, the creator of "The Flight of the Conchords" TV series, is set to direct.
