Healthy eating at Disney World is possible

April 10, 2010 |13:57 | Disney World  By : Team X

Back in January, my husband suggested we take a trip to Disney World for Spring Break. I agreed it would be a great experience for my kids since my 5-year-old daughter is in awe of princesses and my almost 7-year-old son loves roller coasters. But whenever I told someone we were going to Disney World, the immediate reaction was: "You'll have nothing to eat. All they have there is fast food, and lots of it."

Luckily, my business partner, Randy Boyer, went to Disney World with her family back in December, so she recommended that we stay off the Disney property, opting instead for a suite with a fully furnished kitchen and a standard fridge. She suggested we go to a supermarket, buy food for the week, and make our own breakfasts and lunches--that way, the only time we'd have to eat out would be for dinner.

Walt Disney World hotels urban legend debunked

March 30, 2010 |11:11 | Disney World  By : Team X

Walt Disney World hotels urban legend debunkedEven if you haven't stayed at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort, you have seen the convention hotel complex if you have visited EPCOT. The postmodern resort designed by American architect Michael Graves is visible from several places in the park.

The triangular hotel with leaves painted on it is the Dolphin, and the rounded one with waves is the Swan. Which seems to be the opposite of what they should be, right?

And thus, a Disney urban legend was born. It says that when the iconic sculptures on top of the two hotels were hoisted into place, they were put on the wrong buildings, and the names of the hotels had to be changed.
At Yesterland.com, Werner Weiss aims to put the urban legend to rest once and for all. Weiss recounts a conversation with Disney historian Jim Korkis, who has first-hand knowledge of Graves' intent.

Disney World Fans - Will you go see Harry Potter at Universal?

February 17, 2010 |11:57 | Disney World  By : Team X

It’s a question that I am sure both Disney and Universal want to know the answer to. Will Disney fans take time away from Mickey to see Harry? There is a great thread on our discussion forums asking this exact question, and I’m not surprised by some of the answers.

Disney World Fans - Will you go see Harry Potter at Universal?

While it’s full of mixed plans and opinions, the majority of the posters say they will take at least one day out of their Disney vacation to see the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Islands of Adventure. Here are just a few examples from this thread. Grumpy92 posted: “We are planning a trip just to visit HP, a couple days at their hotels. We have decided not even to go down to WDW on this trip.”

Disney World employee faces child-porn charges

January 4, 2010 |16:36 | Disney World  By : Team X

A 32-year-old food-service worker at Walt Disney World was arrested on 200 counts of possessing child pornography.  James Treanor of Clermont, Fla., explained his interest in child porn as a "fantasy" and a remedy for boredom, according to an arrest report filed by Sgt. Chris Loyko of the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

The office said detectives in its cyber-crimes unit learned of Treanor while investigating a child-porn file-sharing network.  Loyko said investigators found more than 5,000 digital images of children "clearly under the age of 12" unclothed or engaged in sexual acts or in sexual poses.

Some of the images depict sexual abuse of infants, he said. Treanor told deputies he recently deleted other images because he was expecting a friend to stay with him and he knew the images were illegal, the sheriff's office said. Bond was set at $10,000 per felony count.

Christmas at Disney World

December 19, 2009 |12:11 | Disney World  By : Team X

Merry Christmas! Happy Hanukkah! Happy Kwanzaa! What have I missed? Oh yeah… Merry New Year from Cameroon. That last one is one of my favorite Eddie Murphy lines from one of my favorite films, Trading Places. You might have guessed that I’m feeling a bit festive and the main reason is that I just returned from a week at Walt Disney World. I know there are many reasons to visit the World at different times of the year but this Holiday period is one of my favorites.

We have visited in December only once previously but we’ve had many January trips that allowed us to catch sight of the Christmas decorations at the parks and resorts before they came down. It was because of those fond memories of our Christmas-time trip of 2003 that we booked this one… and we weren’t disappointed. The parks, resorts and Downtown Disney are done up as only Disney can do them.

In this article, I’ll attempt to give you a flavor of the Holiday Season at the Happiest Place on Earth – focusing on what’s different at Disney during the holidays. While I need to show a few of the favorites, I’ll also try to show you a few things you might not have seen before. I’ll offer a little verbiage, just to set the scene, but I’ll try to deliver the “feel” of this special time through photographs. If a picture is worth 1,000 words then this article should be as valuable as War and Peace.
