Shrek Forever After Theatrical Review

May 25, 2010 |11:43 | Disney Movies  By : Team X

Shrek Forever After Theatrical ReviewThe fourth, and at this point, I would hope the final chapter in the Shrek saga gives us Shrek Forever After. Shrek is the CGI Ogre from Dreamworks who originally made fun of the Disney franchises and gave us a crude, tough (if only cartoonishly), lovable lout of a main character. The first Shrek movie was an outside-the-box experience; and after that, the next two worked reasonably well. By the time we get to the fourth movie, there are precious little surprises left.

In our fourth installment, married life isn't suiting Shrek (Mike Meyers). We get a montage of his soul being crushed by the endless demands of fatherhood, being a celebrity, and having Donkey (Eddie Murphy) as a super-annoying, best friend. This culminates when he has to hold a birthday party for several screaming infants, villagers who treat him as joke (or with outright disrespect), and comrades who all selfishly make life difficult for him. In a moment of frustration, he exclaims that he would like to go back to a time when everything made sense -- the time before he met his wife, Fiona.

Movie lacks Walt Disney magic

March 26, 2010 |12:22 | Disney Movies | Walt Disney  By : Team X

Movie lacks Walt Disney magicAs many of you already know, Disney has always had a history of delivering spectacular animated adventures, full of fun characters, thrilling action and magical song-and-dance numbers. We really saw these films come full circle in the late 1980s and ‘90s with films like “The Little Mermaid” and “The Lion King.”

Then in 1995, a little movie called “Toy Story” was released, and it changed animation forever. Soon, more and more animated movies turned to computer animation and the age of hand-drawn Disney musicals died with 1998’s “Mulan.”

It’s been a long 11 years, but Disney has finally delivered something that’s sure to entertain children, as well as provide a little nostalgia for us college students who grew up with the ‘90s beloved classics.

“The Princess and the Frog” certainly isn’t the greatest Disney musical, but it’s nice to see Disney going back to what made them such a huge success in the first place.

Casts of Fox, Disney series look for laughs

March 18, 2010 |15:09 | Disney Movies  By : Team X

If you are looking for some chuckles this weekend, consider watching the new Fox series "Sons of Tucson" and the second-season of Disney's "Sonny With a Chance." Both TV shows are counting on young, energetic cast members to generate the biggest laughs.

In "Sons of Tucson," three brothers (Frank Dolce, Matthew Levy, Benjamin Stockham) hire a schemer to pretend he's their father while their real dad is in prison.  Tyler Labine plays the schemer. Fans of his last series, "Reaper," might notice a few similarities between Labine's new role as Ron Snuffkin and his previous role of Bert "Sock" Wysocki -- both are slackers looking for the easy route to fame and fortune.

"In my defense, I know that at first glimpse there are a lot of similarities to Sock because I played Sock and I play this character. But I think, as it pans out, you'll find that it's a much deeper, sort of fleshed-out character," Labine says. "At least that's what I was trying to do. But I do have a certain comic styling that is similar to what I did in 'Reaper.' "

Disney Stops Filming of Captain Nemo 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

November 18, 2009 |12:11 | Disney Movies  By : Team X

Disney Stops Filming of Captain Nemo 20,000 Leagues Under the SeaNew Chief Rich Ross stopped production of the film and has shelved the project indefinitely. $10 million were already spent in hiring crews that was supposed to start building sets in Rosarito Beach. It was reported that a generous amount was already spent to hire Pulitzer Prize winner Michael Chabon to write the Nemo story. Charlie’s Angels and Terminator Salvation director McG was supposed to direct while Will Smith was supposed to be Captain Nemo (he turned it down previously).

The movie was supposed to be the next franchise story for Disney, following Pirates of the Caribbean. Incidentally, the focus now of what will be the next big, “water-based” story that will replace Captain Nemo is the fourth installment of Pirates. The story was to focus as a prequel to the 1954 Disney film 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, which was Walt Disney’s first science fiction film. The story was based from the novel of the same title by Jules Verne.

Disney's A Christmas Carol -- Film Review

November 3, 2009 |13:35 | Disney Movies  By : Team X

Disneys A Christmas Carol Film ReviewDidn't Charles Dickens use to be the author of "A Christmas Carol?" Well, now it's "Disney's A Christmas Carol" that opens later this week. Even that's a misnomer.

It should be "Robert Zemeckis' A Christmas Carol." This is not nitpicking, for authorship goes to the heart of what's good and what's not good about this latest cinematic installment of the classic Christmas story.
