A new Disneyland show featuring photos of visitors is set to debut next week. The first show, called “The Magic, the Memories, and You,” is scheduled for 6 p.m. Jan. 27 in the outdoor mall area in front of the “it’s a small world” ride, said John McClintock, a Disneyland Resort spokesman.
Disney plans to project pictures of visitors — many of them taken that day — on the facade of the ride building to music at night. Other photos are submitted to a Disney website, where visitors are invited to submit their pictures. Up to 500 photos will be used nightly in the shows.
The new show is part of Disney parks’ yearlong campaign, called Let the Memories Begin, which is based on tourists’ recollections of their trips to parks and cruises. Disney is using visitor-submitted photos on a special website, nationally televised commercials and in the park shows.
The current-day’s pictures will be taken by PhotoPass photographers at different locations in Disneyland. The photographers often are stationed in front of key locations, such as Sleeping Beauty Castle or the entrance, and with characters. The photographers give cards to the visitors that they can use at different locations and later download their pictures on the PhotoPass website.
See a map of Disneyland PhotoPass locations, which are subject to change. Show organizers plan to look for a variety of pictures when choosing which ones to use in the projections, McClintock said.
The show is set to run once or twice per night. At Walt Disney World, the show on Cinderella’s Castle is scheduled to start Wednesday for the general public. A preview event was set for Tuesday night.
