Teagan Fisher has her heart set on performing on Broadway. The dancing student, from Sandy Creek, is about to have her first taste of the lifestyle when she heads to Disneyland, America, in late September.

The petite 12-year-old has been chosen in a group of about 40 students from Elizabeth’s Total Image Performing Arts Studio to perform several jazz acts. For Teagan, the news of heading overseas for the first time came as a huge surprise as her dance teacher entered the group unknown to them.

“I just was amazed and said to mum ‘oh you’re joking’,” Teagan said. Teagan, who joined Total Image Performing Arts Studio in Elizabeth in 2010, has been dancing since she was four. Her dances include ballet, jazz, tap and she is also involved in musical theatre. The dance student’s itinerary involves dancing in the Disneyland parade, three live stage performances and one lesson in the Edge studio, where many famous performers produce their film clips.

Teagan who one day hopes to perform on Broadway is currently working hard to get there. During the Christmas holidays she spent most of her time at Scotch College where she was involved in youth ballet classes where she performed in Bugsy Malone.

For Teagan to travel overseas it will now means months of fundraising. Already fellow dancers have organised a list of events to raise funds, which is expected to cover costumes and transport of the students’ props.

These events include a couple of movie nights, including one at Semaphore’s Odeon Theatre with a raffle on May 1. A bingo night combined with a silent auction with nibbles and drinks on June 18 and a cabaret show featuring the Teagan and the other dancers on September 10. In addition, businesses or individuals wanting to support Teagan or to attend the organised event, can contact Teagan’s mother Dianne on 0402 325 309.
