Shanghai will accelerate its efforts to become a world-famous tourist city during the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015) and plans to invest 40 billion yuan in 13 major tourist projects, including the Disneyland theme park, which will start construction next month.
All the 13 key projects, which include public services and the tourism industry, will get at least 100 million yuan each, according to news from the 16th Shanghai tourism industry development conference held in Shanghai on Wednesday.
It is estimated that Shanghai Disneyland will most likely get the lion's share of the 40 billion yuan. Shanghai Disneyland plans to attract 7 million to 10 million tourists every year, which will stimulate the development of Shanghai's tourism industry, said Yu Zhengsheng, secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, during the conference.
According to planning, four tourist blocks will be formed in Shanghai, and the eastern block, which will house the Shanghai world-famous tourist district, will be the most important.
