The Disney sci-fi classic Tron looks set to return to the big screen with a (fingers crossed) fitting gaming sequel to go with it.
The 1982 cult film favourite of man trapped inside computer will make its second coming after confirmation that Tron 2 or its working title TR2N, has been pencilled in for a 2011 cinematic release.Jeff Bridges look set to reprise the role of computer hacker Kevin Flynn while Disney take the opportunity to deliver the most obvious gaming tie-in since E.T.
Previous attempts to resurrect the man versus computer carnage has flattered to decieve with first-person shooter Tron 2 briefly containing our PC hard drives in 2003.This will be the first opportunity that the Mickey Mouse corporation will get to put their creative computing hands to try and deliver an overiding success like the 1983 Midway arcade hit which had us racking up the coins to tackle the grid bugs.
Like the film plot, little has been said about what to expect from its gaming incarnate. What we are hoping for at the very least, is some homage to those iconic light-cycle duels. Maybe in the way of a hidden bonus game perhaps?
